Hinduism is a way of life rather than a religion, demure to the special significance of seasons in our lives through religious festivals. Vasant Panchami is one of them.
Vasant Panchami is referred to as the spring festival, and signifies the beginning of Vas ant Ritu (spring season). The 5th day of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Magh is the day of Vasant Panchami. It is also called as Shree Panchami and Saraswati Puja as the godess of learning, Saraswati is worshipped on this day.
The goddess Saraswati is as the deity of Gayatri is the fountain of fine arts and science, and the symbol of supreme vedantic knowledge. Religious paintings depicting each of these goddess symbolize their special power. The white swan of Saraswati symbolizing Satwa Guna (purity and discrimination), the lotus of Lakshmi the Rajas Guna and the tiger of Durga the Tamas Guna. Saraswati is shown possessing four hands and plays "Veena", an Indian string musical instrument. Vasant Panchami is also known as Saraswati Day and commemorates the birth of goddess Saraswati. Hindu temples thronged by people and are abuzz with prayers and rituals.
